Aleena Goes to the Doctor

Aleena had her 2 week check-up today and passed with flying colors. The doc said the red mark on her head would fade, that her length/weight were right on target, and that she was extra cute. Unfortunately, no secret remedy for the hiccups.

Here is a pic of Mommy and Aleena at the doctor's office:

Lazy Sunday

Today we are relaxing and watching tv. The Alseth's came over this afternoon to visit Aleena and give her some cute clothes. Thanks for the gifts...and the coffee...and the zucchini bread! Later, Uncle Corey will visit and play with Aleena. What a great day to be a baby!

Mommy has been doing an incredible job at being mommy. Aleena and I are so lucky that she is ours! We love her!

Aleena in the Morning

Aleena continues to grow and get even cuter. She likes to sleep most of the day so getting pictures of her when she is awake and alert is a rare opportunity. Here are some pics of Aleena and Mommy hanging out on the couch:

A Few New Pics

Baby Aleena has been busy blessing our lives. So far she has gotten very good at napping, peeing/pooping, and making squeaky sounds.

We had guests for dinner last night and she did great, being as cute as can be.

We are off for a walk in the park. Here are a few new pics of our favorite girl:

Aleena's First Outing

Aleena successfully completed her first outing into the big city today. After passing her weight check at the doctor's office, she accompanied her parents on a quick trip to Fred Meyer's for groceries and a stop at Mom & Me to pick up some girl baby clothes.

Here is a pic of Aleena and Mommy shopping for fruit:

Party of 3

Our home officially turned into a family of 3 today as we finally got to leave the hospital after our 5 day/4 night stay at Swedish. I've never been so nervous to drive on Seattle streets before...precious cargo aboard!

A neighbor came over before we even loaded Aleena out of the car. It seems as if she is the talk of the neighborhood. One thing is for sure...she is a cutie.

All of the staff at Swedish were great, especially the nurses. Miya is doing great, and just as I expected, she is an amazing mother. Aleena is the luckiest girl in the world.

I'm off to try and get some precious sleep for an hour or two while Miya shows Aleena her new home.

Thank you to everyone who texted, emailed, called, and had us in their thoughts and prayers. It was a long couple of nights at the hospital and it was really nice to know that so many of you were thinking about us.

More pics to follow as we start our new family together. Here is a pic of Aleena sleeping in Miya's arms in her new nursery:

It's a Girl!

Baby Doane is here, and it's a girl! She was born last night at 11:01 pm, 21 inches long, weighing in at a hearty 8 pounds, 15 ounces.

Miya was amazing and labored for close to 30 hours but in the end, the babe was born by C-Section. Miya and baby are both doing great. Both are beautiful and loves of my life.

Baby Doane doesn't have an official name just yet, partly because we have a couple of names we like and partly because we were sure it was a boy! More pictures and a name to follow.

At the Hospital (Saturday Afternoon)

We are closer but still not there yet. The midwife says that induced labors are long, and this one is no exception.

Miya was finally able to get some much-deserved rest...she has been at it for more than 24 hours now. Hopefully it won't be 24 more!

This baby sure knows how to make an entrance! More to come as we get closer.

At the Hospital (Saturday)

Miya was able to get some sleep last night, so that was good. They started Petocin (sp?) early this morning and the contractions have started to pick up in strength within the last hour.

Today will be a full day of hard work for Miya, so she is trying to pace herself and save her strength.

Getting closer to meeting Baby Doane! More updates to come.

Friday, August 12, 2011

So here we go! Miya had her ultrasound today and the amniotic fluid was lower than it was the day before, so the doc decided it was best to induce labor.

They started the induction tonight and anticipate a Baby Doane arrival by Saturday night/Sunday morning.

They gave her something to help her sleep and rest up for the big day tomorrow.

Miya is doing amazing so far and I am so proud of her. Lots of hard work tomorrow but I know she will do great. And Baby Doane will be worth the wait.

Sorry if we didn't call/text everyone we should have, but the induction happened a day or two sooner than we anticipated. It will be a full days work tomorrow so I'll try and post updates when I am able. Goodnight, see you soon Baby Doane!

Due Date + 7

Baby Doane, why are you playing hard to get? Well, interesting news today. Miya had an ultrasound since it is a week past her due date. The Doc said the amniotic fluid is kind of low, so she needs to have another ultrasound tomorrow. If it's still low tomorrow, they will probably induce labor in the next couple of days. If it's not low, probably early next week.

This is not bad news, it's just what happens when Baby Doane stays in Miya's tummy for so long. But we are still holding out hope that Baby Doane will come out on his/her own. I'm dying to meet the babe!

Here is a pic of Miya while they monitor the baby. The Doc said he/she seems to be strong and healthy...a true Doane!

Due Date + 6

Baby Doane, where art thou? It is now due date + 6 and no Baby Doane yet. We have an appointment tomorrow for an ultrasound to make sure he/she is comfy in Miya's belly and ask him/her why he/she is too shy to come out and play. They will also schedule an induction within the next week (probably early next week) just in case Baby Doane needs to be coaxed out.

Miya is doing well and is in good spirits despite Baby Doane's tardiness. We have a movie date tonight, so if you read in the paper that a woman gave birth at Edmonds Theatre, it was probably Miya.

Here is a picture of Baby Doane and Mommy Doane at due date + 6 days.

Due Date + 5

We had the final session of our Centering program at Swedish Ballard today. During the routine check up, the midwife noticed that Miya's blood pressure was higher than normal. So she sent her to get some tests done.

Miya gave blood, peed in a cup, and had her belly monitored more than an hour. By 8:00 pm, she was deemed normal and released.

We enjoyed some excitement today, but are still waiting for Baby Doane to make his/her appearance.

Here is a pic of Miya undergoing her tests today:

Due Date + 4

No news to report right now.  Miya is trying to book an acupuncture appointment tomorrow, supposedly it has a good success rate at getting labor started.  Why is Baby Doane being so shy?

I'm not sure how the birth is going to play out at the hospital, but I hope it's nothing like this:

Due Date + 3

We heard that massage and/or eggplant can induce labor. So today we went to Greenlake and Miya got a massage while I jogged around the lake. Then we has lunch in the sun. Miya had the eggplant mousaka. Let's go Baby Doane!

Due Date + 1

It's one day after Miya's due date and no sign of Baby Doane yet. Today is my dad's birthday, so my dad and Baby Doane could share the day if things pick up.

Here is how Miya is passing the time until Baby Doane arrives:

No Baby Yet

No baby news yet. Miya's due date is tomorrow, but according to the very reliable Internet, only about 5% of babies are born on their due date. Will our babe be part of the elite 5%?

I've read that spicy foods and walking are natural ways to induce labor. We just might have to walk to Thai Bistro tonight for dinner and have some spicy Pad Kee Mao.

Here is a pic of Miya this morning, patiently waiting for Baby Doane to make an appearance.
